Memorial Day weekend is upon us and the unofficial start of summer is here! While having an extra day off of work is great, it’s important to take the time and recognize what the holiday is all about…our fallen soldiers.
Summer is all about kicking back, relaxing with friends and family and bbq. Most people’s go to summer BBQ drink is the classic all American beer…it’s time to kick it up a notch and really wow your loved ones and guests by busting out the ol’ bartending skills. The weather is changing and the days are getting longer so why not stick with a light refreshing and easy to sip on drink.
One of my personal summertime favorites is the mojito. What’s great about this classic cocktail is you aren’t confined to just lime there are a world of combinations and twists to be made with this refreshing Cuban cocktail.
- Grab a highball glass
- 6 Washed Mint Leaves
- 1 oz Simple Syrup (store bought or home made)
- 2oz White Rum (your choice)
- 1/2 Lime (fresh squeezed is my favorite)
- Muddle ingredients
*If your looking for a twist try muddling in your favorite fresh fruit or switch out your white rum to a different flavored rum
- Add ice
- Fill with soda water
- Top with garnish
Side note: garnishes are a nice touch to every drink, it’s visually appealing and evokes excitement in your guest before they even get a chance to try your concoction. It’s a great way to be artistic too and put your own flair on your masterpiece. While the possibilities are endless a sprig of mint is a nice simple touch or if you want to go fancy a sugar cane on the side looks good and is nice to chew on while you are enjoying your drink plus an added bonus is it adds to the flavor profile.
As always enjoy responsibly. Cheers Danielle
